Balochistan to Modernize Mining Sector with New Automation and Safety Measures: Finance Minister Chairs Key Meeting

Quetta:An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Balochistan’s Minister for Finance and Mineral Resources, Mir Shoaib Nosherwani, to discuss the restructuring and automation of the Mining and Mineral Department, as well as the allocation and disbursement of funds for the project. The meeting was attended by the Secretary of Minerals, Syedal Loni, Director-General of Minerals, Abdullah Shahwani, and other senior officials.
Speaking at the meeting, the provincial minister emphasized the vital role of the mining and mineral sector in Balochistan’s economy, stating that this sector serves as the **backbone** of the region’s economic activity and provides employment to millions of people. To bring the sector up to modern standards, the minister stressed the need for urgent measures.
Mir Shoaib Nosherwani highlighted that the **automation project** would enhance **transparency, performance, and oversight** within the department. He directed the relevant authorities to take immediate and effective steps to prevent accidents in mines and ensure the safety of workers. The minister further warned that any mine owners or organizations found negligent in providing the necessary safety equipment to workers would face strict disciplinary action.
He emphasized that **protecting human life** is the government’s top priority, and no compromise would be made on safety standards in the mining sector.
Additionally, the finance minister, in line with the instructions of the Chief Minister of Balochistan, held a meeting with representatives of the **Mines Owners Association**, where they discussed various legal aspects related to the **Mines Act**. Shoaib Nosherwani assured the representatives that the government would address their legitimate demands and work in consultation with all stakeholders to make the mining sector **active, safe, and sustainable**.
