JUI-F Leader Maulana Abdul Wasay Says Campaign Against Fazlur Rehman Is a ‘Propaganda Drive’

Quetta: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Balochistan chief and Senator Maulana Abdul Wasay has claimed that a recent public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan demonstrated the party’s popular support, alleging that criticism of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman is part of a coordinated propaganda campaign.
In a statement, Abdul Wasay said the large turnout at the gathering amounted to a “public referendum” that challenged what he described as claims of “artificial popularity” by political opponents. He alleged that the event had unsettled those in positions of power.
He further claimed that remarks made by Maulana Fazlur Rehman were taken out of context to create what he described as a misleading narrative. According to Abdul Wasay, the purpose of such criticism is to create divisions between the public and Pakistan’s security institutions and to fuel political instability.
The JUI-F leader also alleged that the same political forces had previously contributed to tensions between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and state institutions and were now benefiting politically from those divisions.
Referring to the May 9 incidents, Abdul Wasay questioned what he described as the political narrative surrounding the events and argued that several questions remain unanswered.
He also claimed that following a recent public gathering in Chaman led by Mahmood Khan, efforts were made to portray the JUI-F leadership as being opposed to state institutions.
Reaffirming his party’s stance, Abdul Wasay said JUI-F would continue its constitutional, democratic, and political struggle and respond to what it considers false allegations and propaganda through public engagement and its stated principles.
