Gwadar Port Completes First Commercial Bunkering Operation, Marks Historic Milestone in Pakistan’s Maritime Trade
GWADAR: Gwadar Port has achieved a major milestone in Pakistan’s maritime and commercial history by successfully completing its first commercial bunkering operation, positioning itself as an emerging regional maritime hub capable of providing both cargo handling and marine fuel supply services.
According to officials, the operation involved the supply of 2,500 metric tons of marine fuel to the international LNG carrier “LNG ENUGU”, which is jointly operated by QatarEnergy, ADNOC, and Vitol.
The successful bunkering operation was carried out through the joint efforts of the Gwadar Port Authority (GPA), National Logistics Corporation (NLC), Gwadar International Terminals Limited (GITL), and Vitol Asia. Authorities described the achievement as a reflection of Gwadar Port’s growing operational capabilities and its ability to deliver services that meet international maritime standards.
Maritime experts believe the launch of commercial bunkering services at Gwadar will significantly boost Pakistan’s blue economy, create new sources of foreign exchange earnings, and generate additional revenue. The development is also expected to attract investment in logistics, marine services, shipping, and other port-related industries.
Officials said the successful operation is likely to strengthen the confidence of global shipping companies in Gwadar Port. They expect more international cargo and energy vessels to utilize the port’s bunkering facilities in the future, increasing maritime traffic and commercial activity.
They added that the initiative represents a significant step toward realizing the vision of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) by transforming Gwadar into a regional trade, energy, and maritime logistics hub. The project is also expected to create new employment opportunities, encourage investment, and stimulate economic growth in Gwadar and across Balochistan.
Authorities described the successful commercial bunkering operation as another historic achievement for Gwadar Port, highlighting its growing role in strengthening Pakistan’s maritime economy and enhancing the country’s position in regional and international trade.
