Analyst Muzammil Suharwardy Calls for Fair and Transparent Trial in Lahore Case Involving Two Foreign Women

Lahore: Pakistani analyst Muzammil Suharwardy has stressed the need for a fair and transparent trial in the ongoing Lahore case involving the alleged abduction and sexual assault of two foreign women, arguing that the matter is likely to receive international scrutiny.

Speaking during a discussion on the case, Suharwardy said the proceedings should remain within the judicial process and emphasized that justice must be delivered through a fair trial. He argued against any extrajudicial measures, stating that such an approach would damage Pakistan’s international reputation.

According to Suharwardy, the case involves two foreign nationals, making it particularly sensitive. He said diplomatic representatives, including officials from the concerned countries, are expected to closely monitor the legal proceedings, and their respective foreign ministries and law enforcement agencies may also follow developments.

He warned that any perception of an unfair trial could attract international criticism of Pakistan’s justice system. Instead, he said, authorities should ensure a transparent legal process and, if the accused are found guilty by the court, impose the strictest punishment in accordance with the law.

Addressing Advocate Mian Daoud during the discussion, Suharwardy suggested that an appeal be made to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to ensure the case is heard on a day-to-day basis and concluded within a short timeframe. He argued that a swift and transparent trial would strengthen confidence in Pakistan’s judicial system.

Suharwardy further claimed that the case involves one woman from the Netherlands and another from Venezuela, adding that officials linked to their respective embassies had arrived to assist them and were expected to closely observe the proceedings. He maintained that ensuring due process in the case would help uphold the credibility of Pakistan’s legal and judicial institutions.
