Ireland Complete Historic 2-0 T20I Series Sweep Over India With Dramatic One-Run Victory

Ireland created one of the biggest upsets in T20 International cricket by defeating world champions India by one run in the second and final T20I, completing a historic 2-0 series sweep in Dublin.

The victory marked India’s first T20I series defeat since 2023 and secured Ireland’s first-ever bilateral T20I series win over the cricketing powerhouse.

Batting first at Civil Service Cricket Club, Stormont, Ireland posted a competitive total of 154 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Harry Tector led the innings with a composed 53 off 47 balls, while Cade Carmichael contributed a valuable 37 from 23 deliveries.

For India, Prince Yadav was the standout bowler, claiming 3 wickets for 22 runs in his four overs. Shivam Dube and Arshdeep Singh picked up two wickets each.

Chasing 155 for victory, India’s innings got off to a disastrous start as openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson were both dismissed for golden ducks—the first time in T20I history that both Indian openers had been out on the first ball of an innings. Debutant Suryash also fell cheaply for just one run, leaving India in deep trouble.

Tilak Varma attempted to rescue the chase with a fighting 55 off 46 balls, while Shivam Dube added 20 from 16 deliveries. However, the visitors fell just short, finishing on 153 for 9 from their 20 overs to lose the match by a single run.

Ireland’s bowling attack was led by Jay Mowundra and Matt Hallard, who claimed three wickets each, while Matthew Humphreys and Harry Tector chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Ireland had already taken a 1-0 lead after defeating India by 34 runs in the opening T20I, a result that marked the country’s first-ever victory over India in any format of international cricket. The second win sealed a memorable series triumph and ranks among the greatest achievements in Irish cricket history.
