16 Arrested for Running Social Media Campaign on Alleged Assault Case

Lahore: Authorities have arrested 16 individuals for allegedly spreading misinformation on social media regarding a reported sexual assault involving a student at a private college.
DIG Organized Crime Imran Kishore stated that 138 accounts disseminating fake news have been blocked as part of the ongoing investigation into the unverified incident. He noted that 40 students were involved in violence and vandalism during protests but have not faced any legal action thus far.
Kishore clarified that no women from Karachi have been apprehended in connection with the case. The situation escalated as false reports about the alleged assault sparked violent demonstrations among students in various cities across Punjab.
