Gwadar Activates Shortest Land Transit Corridor for Trade with Iran

Gwadar: The Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) has officially activated the shortest land transit corridor for trade with Iran and issued comprehensive operational guidelines under CGO 05/2026 to facilitate the movement of goods through the Gabd–Rimdan border crossing.
According to the guidelines, cargo transported from Gwadar Port to Iran will move under customs supervision in full compliance with all legal, documentary, and customs requirements. The route from Gwadar Port to the Gabd border covers approximately 87 kilometers, making it the shortest overland trade corridor connecting Pakistan with Iran.
The newly introduced framework provides several customs facilitation measures, including the use of TIR Carnet, Transit Goods Declaration (GD) with security arrangements, and cross-stuffing procedures to ensure the smooth movement of cargo across the border.
Gwadar Port Chairman Noor-ul-Haq Baloch said the initiative is expected to create new business opportunities for traders, importers, transport companies, customs clearing agents, warehouse operators, and logistics service providers.
He added that the primary objective of the initiative is to increase commercial activity at Gwadar Port, strengthen trade ties between Pakistan and Iran, and establish Gwadar as a key regional transit and logistics hub.
The Gwadar Port Authority believes the new transit corridor will improve regional connectivity, enhance cross-border trade efficiency, and contribute to the long-term development of Pakistan’s strategic port infrastructure.
