Balochistan Hit by Series of Earthquakes as Tremors Felt Across Pakistan

Quetta:Balochistan has experienced a series of earthquakes over the past two days, with officials confirming that five moderate tremors have been recorded in the province since yesterday.
According to reports, the latest earthquake struck the Barkhan district and surrounding areas on Saturday morning. The quake measured **5.2 on the Richter scale**, and its epicenter was located within Barkhan district.
Director of the National Seismic Center Karachi, **Amir Haider Laghari**, stated that both Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are situated on the **Eurasian tectonic plate**, and the recent earthquakes have occurred in the upper layers of this plate. He explained that the current seismic activity may also be linked to global geological developments.
Laghari noted that a powerful earthquake in Venezuela may have generated underground energy waves that increased pressure along interconnected tectonic plates, potentially contributing to seismic activity in other regions.
Meanwhile, on Saturday evening, strong earthquake tremors were felt across several parts of Pakistan, including **Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, Muzaffarabad, Malakand, Swat, Dir, Abbottabad**, and numerous cities in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Residents in affected areas rushed out of homes and offices as the tremors triggered panic. The earthquake was also felt in **Sheikhupura, Sargodha, Chiniot, Bhera, Kalur Kot, Quaidabad, Taxila, Hasan Abdal, Haripur, Swabi, Charsadda, Hangu, Orakzai, Lower Dir, and Upper Dir**.
Initial reports indicated that the earthquake measured **5.9 magnitude**, with a depth of **178 kilometers**. However, according to the **Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA)**, the quake had a magnitude of **5.9** and originated in the **Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan**, at a depth of **191 kilometers**.
Authorities have confirmed that **no casualties or significant property damage have been reported so far**. Officials continue to monitor the situation as seismic activity persists in the region.
