PM Shehbaz Sharif Cancels Switzerland Visit Following Iran–US Agreement Progress

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has canceled his scheduled visit to Switzerland, diplomatic sources said on Wednesday. The Prime Minister was expected to depart for Switzerland today.
According to diplomatic sources, the visit was called off after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Islamabad. Officials described the postponement as a result of successful diplomacy, noting that the agreement is now fully operational and implementation has already begun.
Sources said Pakistan will continue to play a central role in enforcing the agreement and facilitating its future phases. Following the Islamabad accord, expert-level discussions will be accelerated to address various technical aspects covered under the MoU.
The sources added that technical negotiations will focus on easing sanctions, maritime security, nuclear-related matters, verification mechanisms, implementation procedures, and regional confidence-building measures.
Under the Iran–US agreement, initial negotiations are scheduled to take place tomorrow at the Bürgenstock Resort in Switzerland.
Reports indicate that U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian have signed the agreement. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also signed the document in his role as a mediator, with Pakistan formally endorsing the accord.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that the agreement would serve as a foundation for peace and stability in the region. He also praised Field Marshal Asim Munir for his tireless efforts in advancing the diplomatic breakthrough and promoting regional peace.
The Prime Minister further congratulated President Trump, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and President Pezeshkian on the agreement.
