Army Chief Gen. Asim Munir Praises National Unity and Media’s Role in Countering Indian Aggression

Islamabad:Army Chief General Asim Munir has expressed pride in the way the entire nation united to face external threats, emphasizing that Pakistan’s media provided a brilliant response to Indian media, which will be remembered. Speaking informally with journalists at a special *Youm-e-Tashakur* (Thanksgiving Day) ceremony at Pakistan Monument, General Munir stated that the collective national spirit and the media’s responsible portrayal of the truth were key to Pakistan’s success in recent confrontations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who was the chief guest at the event, also highlighted the nation’s gratitude and paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the defense of the country. The ceremony, attended by senior military officials including the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the three services chiefs, was also graced by several ministers, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, and Information Minister Ataullah Tarar.
During his address, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif saluted the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s soldiers and the resilience of the nation. He emphasized that *Youm-e-Tashakur* was not just a day of thanks, but a rare occasion that would be remembered for generations. The Prime Minister also mentioned that Pakistan had extended a sincere offer for an impartial investigation into the Pulwama incident, which was rejected by India.
General Munir reiterated that Pakistan’s media had acted responsibly throughout the situation, presenting the truth and not hiding any facts. He praised the media for its significant role in responding to Indian narratives, and added, “Our media gave a magnificent reply to Indian media, and it will be remembered.”
He also emphasized the importance of national unity, stating, “The entire nation came together to face the enemy, and we are proud of how the media played a pivotal role.”
In the backdrop of the event, Pakistan’s decisive response to India’s military aggression in early May 2024 was also acknowledged. On the night of May 6-7, India launched an offensive, which Pakistan countered by shooting down five Indian aircraft, including three Rafale jets. This bold defense of national sovereignty on May 10 sent a clear message to India and was lauded internationally, with even voices within India acknowledging Pakistan’s strength and resilience.
The *Youm-e-Tashakur* ceremony also served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s forces and the unwavering spirit of the nation in the face of adversity.
