Last-Gasp Goal Gives Ghana Dramatic 1-0 Victory Over Panama in FIFA World Cup 2026

Toronto:Ghana secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over Panama in a FIFA World Cup 2026 Group L encounter, scoring deep into injury time to claim three crucial points.
The match, played at Toronto Stadium, produced a surprising outcome as Panama dominated possession and attacking play for most of the contest but ultimately finished on the losing side.
Panama controlled approximately 63 percent of possession and launched numerous attacks throughout the match. However, despite creating pressure, they were unable to find a breakthrough against Ghana’s resilient defense.
Ghana, who spent much of the game defending, seized their opportunity in the dying moments. In the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time, Caleb Yirenky scored the decisive goal to hand his side a dramatic lead.
Following the goal, Panama desperately pushed forward in search of an equalizer. In the closing seconds, even the Panamanian goalkeeper joined the attack for a free-kick and managed to get a header on target, but Ghana’s goalkeeper made a crucial save to preserve the lead.
Tempers flared immediately afterward when a Panama player reacted angrily after the missed opportunity and kicked the Ghanaian goalkeeper. The incident sparked a confrontation between players from both teams, leading to pushing and shoving on the field.
The referee responded by showing a red card to the Panama player involved. Moments later, the final whistle was blown, confirming Ghana’s hard-fought 1-0 win.
The victory provides Ghana with valuable points in Group L and strengthens their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage of the tournament.
