Iran Signed Memorandum to Test U.S. Commitment to Respecting Iranian Rights: President Pezeshkian

TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that Iran signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States to assess Washington’s commitment to respecting Iran’s rights.

In a statement posted on X, President Pezeshkian said that after lengthy and detailed negotiations, members of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) expressed support for the text of the memorandum.

He noted that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei played a key role in ensuring the inclusion of necessary provisions aimed at safeguarding Iran’s national interests. According to the president, the memorandum is the outcome of several months of negotiations.

Pezeshkian stated that the agreement was signed to test the United States’ willingness to respect Iran’s legitimate rights. He described the memorandum as an important step toward ending tensions and initiating formal negotiations between the two countries.

The Iranian president emphasized that Iran remains prepared for all possible scenarios and options. He added that if all provisions of the memorandum are fully implemented, it could become a source of pride for the Iranian nation.

Meanwhile, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance confirmed that both the United States and Iran have signed the memorandum. According to Vance, the document was signed on behalf of the United States by President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, while Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf signed on behalf of Iran.
