FBR May Extend Tax Filing Deadline Due to System Overload

Islamabad:The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is considering an extension of the tax return filing deadline due to an increased burden on the system during the submission process.

Reports indicate that the filing process has slowed significantly, making it challenging for taxpayers to submit their returns by the original deadline. The FBR has decided to recommend to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif that the deadline be extended, pending his return to the country for further discussion.

The current deadline for income tax return submissions is set for September 30, leaving only one day for taxpayers to comply, while the FBR system is experiencing delays.

In an effort to assist the public, the FBR has announced that the operating hours of its field offices will be extended, remaining open until 10 PM, with offices on September 30 staying open until midnight.

As of September 28, a total of 2.9 million tax returns have been submitted, compared to 1.4 million returns filed by the same date last year, indicating that the filing process is still ongoing.
