Protecting Marine Resources is Collective Responsibility, Essential for Sustainable Development: Balochistan CM
Quetta – Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti has said that the protection of marine resources is a collective responsibility, emphasizing that sustainable development, environmental balance, and the secure future of coming generations are not possible without safeguarding the oceans.
In his message on the occasion of World Oceans Day, the Chief Minister said that Balochistan has a coastline of approximately 770 kilometers, which not only enhances Pakistan’s geographical importance but also plays a key role in the national economy, international trade, and the promotion of maritime activities.
He stated that coastal areas of Balochistan, including Gwadar, offer vast opportunities in the blue economy, fisheries, coastal tourism, and investment, which can be effectively utilized to generate economic growth and employment opportunities.
The Chief Minister noted that, like the rest of the world, Pakistan’s oceans are facing serious threats including environmental pollution, plastic waste, illegal fishing, and the adverse impacts of climate change. He stressed that governments, institutions, local communities, and citizens must work together to address these challenges.
He further said that the Government of Balochistan is taking practical steps for the protection of the coastal environment, reduction of marine pollution, welfare of the fishing community, and sustainable development of coastal regions.
Mir Sarfraz Bugti added that protecting the oceans is directly linked to human survival, food security, and economic stability. He urged the public, educational institutions, and civil society to play their role in promoting environmental awareness and conserving marine resources.
Reaffirming his commitment, the Chief Minister said that the provincial government will continue its efforts to develop coastal areas and promote environmentally friendly policies to ensure that coastal resources are effectively utilized for national development and prosperity.
