Power Bill Manipulation Curbed as QESCO Installs Smart Meters, Consumers Can Check Readings on Mobile Apps

Quetta: The Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) has accelerated the installation of modern Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) smart meters to provide relief to consumers and ensure transparency in the billing system, a move expected to eliminate incorrect readings and inflated electricity bills.

Under the project, being implemented under the supervision of QESCO Chief Executive Officer Engineer Yousaf Shah Khan, a total of 2,934 smart meters have been installed across Balochistan so far. These include 1,340 connections in Quetta, 438 in Khuzdar, 378 in Sibi, 292 in Makran, 283 in Loralai, and 203 in Pishin.

A key feature of the new smart meters is that consumers can check their electricity readings at any time through a mobile application. The system will also immediately detect power theft and meter tampering.

QESCO officials said the AMR system will eliminate the possibility of human error in meter readings and ensure timely and accurate billing. Consumers have been urged to fully cooperate with QESCO teams during the installation process to help make the initiative a success.
