Case Registered Over Alleged Defamatory Social Media Posts Against Current and Former AJK Prime Ministers

MIRPUR, Azad Jammu and Kashmir: Police have registered a case against several individuals, including Joint Public Action Committee core member Murtaza Sharif Mir, over allegedly sharing offensive and defamatory content on social media targeting the current Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, Faisal Rathore, and the late former Prime Minister, Mumtaz Hussain Rathore.

According to police sources, the case was registered at Mumtazabad Police Station, and an investigation has been launched into the matter.

The First Information Report (FIR) alleges that the nominated individuals disseminated objectionable material through social media platforms, prompting legal action under relevant laws.

Meanwhile, calls have also emerged for legal proceedings in a separate matter involving the alleged misuse of a photograph of former District Zakat Chairman Mir Qamar Din Qamar for character assassination purposes.

Various social and public circles have emphasized that individuals responsible for damaging the reputation and dignity of others through social media should be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.

The incident has sparked debate in the region over whether laws are being applied equally to all citizens. Some observers argue that justice requires the same legal standards to be enforced for both influential figures and ordinary citizens.

The Public Action Committee Haveli has expressed concern over the registration of cases against some of its members, stating that the law should not be used for political purposes.

Committee leaders have called for transparent and impartial investigations to ensure that facts are brought before the public.

Political and social commentators note that with the growing influence of social media, fair and unbiased enforcement of laws related to defamation, character assassination, and hate speech is essential for maintaining public trust in the justice system.
