Nawaz Sharif says he does not seek votes through criticism of others, questions past treatment

Gilgit: Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) President and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that he does not seek votes by criticising others but relies on performance-based politics.

Addressing a public rally during the election campaign in Gilgit-Baltistan, Nawaz Sharif said that when he arrived in the region, he was deeply saddened to see the condition of the roads and infrastructure.

He said he has a strong emotional attachment to the mountains and a deep love for Skardu and Gilgit-Baltistan, adding that the people of the region have always remained close to his heart.

Referring to the region’s infrastructure and power issues, he said roads were in poor condition and there were potholes, while electricity outages lasted 22 hours in winter and 10 to 12 hours in summer, which he said was unacceptable.

The former prime minister said that during his party’s tenure, motorways were built across the country as part of development efforts.

He added that he always seeks votes based on performance rather than criticism of opponents, but questioned why he was forced into exile and jailed multiple times, stating that “people should also reflect on their role” in allowing such circumstances.
