Balochistan Security Situation Worsens as Business Community and Transporters React, Joint Committee Formed

Quetta (Kudrat News): The business community of Balochistan, transporters, import-export stakeholders, mine owners associations, traders’ bodies, and farmers’ representatives have expressed serious concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the province, incidents of setting cargo vehicles on fire, and growing difficulties in the legal movement of goods.

A consultative meeting chaired by Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Haji Muhammad Ayub Mariani decided to form a joint committee comprising all stakeholders to develop a strategy for addressing the ongoing issues.

The participants demanded that the government compensate the losses of the business community, transporters, and mine owners, and take immediate and emergency measures to ensure their protection. They warned that otherwise, they may be forced to launch protests.

The meeting was informed that several cargo trucks have been set on fire in recent weeks, while the security situation on highways remains highly unstable, severely affecting trade activities across the province.

Business leaders stated that the Prime Minister has been informed about the situation and has reportedly assured the formation of a high-powered committee to address the matter. They added that if highways are not reopened promptly, a stricter course of action will be taken.

Transporters and representatives of various associations alleged that dozens of vehicles have been burned in recent weeks, while there is no effective communication or compensation mechanism from the government.

It was also proposed during the meeting that the Government of Balochistan should establish a special fund to compensate the losses of the affected business community. At the conclusion of the meeting, a joint stakeholders’ committee was formally formed, which will determine the future course of action in its upcoming session.
