Ghazi Ghori Says Rizwan Remains Pakistan’s First-Choice Wicketkeeper

LAHORE: Pakistan’s young wicketkeeper-batter Ghazi Ghori has said that strong performances boost a player’s confidence, especially when they contribute to the team’s success. He emphasized that he is not replacing Mohammad Rizwan, who remains Pakistan’s first-choice wicketkeeper.
Speaking to the media during a practice session in Lahore, Ghori said he was grateful for the opportunity to represent the national team and was determined to make the most of it.
The young batter stated that batting alongside Babar Azam does not create pressure; instead, it gives him confidence and helps him perform better.
Ghori revealed that he was instructed to stay at the crease rather than focus on scoring quickly, as the required run rate was under control. He added that he constantly works on improving his weaknesses and currently does not model his game after any particular player.
“My job is to bat wherever the team needs me,” he said.
Addressing comparisons with Mohammad Rizwan, Ghori clarified that Rizwan remains the team’s first-choice wicketkeeper and that he is simply trying to capitalize on the opportunities given to him.
Commenting on Australia, Ghori noted that even without several senior players, the Australian team always possesses the ability to bounce back strongly.
It is worth mentioning that Pakistan defeated Australia by five wickets in the first match of the three-match One-Day International series.
Chasing a target of 201 runs, Pakistan reached the total in the 43rd over with five wickets to spare. Babar Azam top-scored with 69 runs, while Ghazi Ghori contributed an impressive 65 runs in the successful run chase.
