Champions Trophy 2025 Kicks Off in Pakistan with High Hopes and Security Measures

The much-awaited Champions Trophy 2025 officially begins today, with Pakistan facing New Zealand in the opening match at the National Stadium in Karachi. The event promises an exciting start, with a colorful opening ceremony attended by President Arif Alvi and featuring a spectacular flypast by the Pakistan Air Force jets.

Before the opening match, all participating teams, except India and Bangladesh, have arrived in Pakistan. India’s team will play their first match against Bangladesh in Dubai. Pakistan, the defending champion, is set to play their second match against their arch-rivals, India, on February 23 in Dubai, which has fans eagerly awaiting.

This edition of the Champions Trophy is especially significant as it marks Pakistan’s first time hosting an ICC international event since the 1996 World Cup. Pakistan is also hoping to break its long-standing losing streak against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy, having failed to beat them in past editions. Fans are hopeful that Pakistan, playing at home, will finally defeat New Zealand.

In preparation for the tournament, Pakistan has made extensive arrangements. Both the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and the National Stadium in Karachi underwent renovation, completing the work in record time. Law enforcement agencies, including the police, Rangers, and Pakistan Army, will ensure tight security during the event.

**Pakistan’s Strategy Against New Zealand:**

Pakistan’s captain, Mohammad Rizwan, confirmed that Babar Azam will open the innings in the match against New Zealand, and there are no plans for a change in this role. Rizwan also confirmed that Haris Rauf is fully fit and will play in the match. The captain expressed confidence that the team is determined to win and assured the nation that the players will deliver strong performances in the tournament.

Rizwan emphasized that whenever Pakistan is considered weak, the team ends up winning. He hopes that the weaknesses from previous encounters with New Zealand will not be a factor in this match.

**Special Traffic Plan for Karachi’s Cricket Fans:**

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (Traffic) Karachi has announced a special traffic plan for cricket fans attending the matches at National Stadium. Shah Sahab Sulaiman Road will remain open from both sides. Additionally, specific parking arrangements have been made for fans traveling from various parts of the city.

Fans coming from areas like Karasaz, Millenium, and New Town will have designated parking spaces near the National Coaching Center and China Ground, as outlined in the traffic plan.

**What Fans Cannot Bring to the Stadium:**

Fans attending the Champions Trophy matches must adhere to the strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). According to the guidelines, power banks, airpods, gutka, or any chewing tobacco are not allowed inside the stadium. Additionally, bringing food, beverages, or water bottles into the stadium is prohibited. Fans are advised to bring their original CNIC and a printed copy of their tickets, as online tickets or soft copies will not be accepted.

**India’s Refusal to Play in Pakistan:**

Initially, the Champions Trophy faced controversy due to India’s refusal to play in Pakistan, insisting on neutral venues for their matches. As a result, India’s matches will be held in Dubai, while the tournament will take place in Pakistan until March 9, 2025.

With tight security and an eager fanbase, Pakistan is ready to host a thrilling edition of the Champions Trophy 2025.
