Trump Says Iran’s Enriched Uranium Must Be Handed Over or Destroyed Under Supervision

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has indicated a softened stance on Iran’s enriched uranium, saying it must either be handed over to the United States or destroyed under monitored conditions.

In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said the enriched uranium should be transferred immediately to the United States for disposal, or alternatively destroyed within Iran through mutual cooperation and coordination.

He added that the process could take place at the same site or another agreed location under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Commission or an equivalent regulatory body.

Earlier, speaking to journalists, Trump claimed that Iranian negotiators had agreed to hand over even already enriched uranium as part of efforts to reach a broader agreement aimed at ending tensions.

The US president also said that American and Iranian negotiators are “very close” to finalizing a deal to end the conflict.

In an interview with CBS News, Trump stated that any final agreement would prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and ensure that its enriched uranium is handled in a “safe and satisfactory manner.”

He added that he would only sign an agreement that fully meets US objectives.
