Pakistan, Azerbaijan Agree to Form Joint Working Group for Economic Cooperation

Pakistan and Azerbaijan have agreed to establish a joint working group to promote economic cooperation and facilitate investment between the two countries.

The decision was made during a meeting in Baku between Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Azerbaijan’s Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov.

During the meeting, both sides discussed expanding bilateral economic cooperation and strengthening institutional partnerships between Punjab and Azerbaijan. They also explored collaboration in trade, investment, urban development, agriculture, tourism, logistics, and infrastructure.

The two sides agreed to establish a joint working group to facilitate cooperation and investment in these sectors. Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb will lead the working group from the Punjab side.

The group will identify priority sectors for cooperation and joint projects, organize opportunities for public-private partnerships, and present practical proposals within the next few months.

The meeting also included discussions on the possibility of a preferential trade agreement between Pakistan and Azerbaijan and ways to transform political goodwill into concrete economic outcomes.

Maryam Nawaz invited the Azerbaijani economy minister to visit Pakistan and said the proposed trade agreement aims to improve market access, reduce trade barriers, and increase bilateral trade volume.

She added that Punjab’s economic plan is focused on industrial modernization, exports, and value addition.
