Major Increase in Electricity Prices Likely Across Pakistan Including Karachi

Islamabad: Electricity consumers across Pakistan, including Karachi, may face a significant increase in power tariffs as the Central Power Purchasing Agency (Central Power Purchasing Agency) has submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) seeking a hike in electricity prices.
According to the application, electricity tariffs could increase by Rs1.72 per unit for one month under the monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism.
The CPPA submitted the request for the month of April, citing fuel cost adjustments. NEPRA is scheduled to hear the petition on June 2.
If approved, the increase will apply to consumers of K-Electric as well as all electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) across the country.
