Severe heatwave and prolonged power outages worsen life in Quetta and across Balochistan

QUETTA (Kuwait News Desk) — Residents of Quetta and other parts of Balochistan are facing extreme hardship as intense heat combined with prolonged electricity load-shedding has severely disrupted daily life across the province.

High temperatures and frequent power outages lasting several hours have not only affected routine activities but have also triggered a severe shortage of drinking water in many areas.

According to residents, electricity remains suspended for long periods in various parts of the city, making it difficult to operate fans, coolers, and other essential appliances during the ongoing heatwave.

Due to power disruptions, water supply systems have also been affected, forcing citizens to struggle for access to clean drinking water.

Several areas of Quetta, including Shaldera, Madrasa Road, Kali Durani, Nawan Killi, Lehri Gate, Sariab Road, Hazara Town, Spini Road, Pashtoonabad, Jinnah Town, Brewery Road, and Jan Muhammad Road, have reported serious concerns over water shortages and unscheduled load-shedding.

In some localities, residents claim electricity outages last between 10 to 14 hours daily, leading to the shutdown of water pumps and paralyzing domestic life.

Women, children, and the elderly are reported to be the most affected by the harsh weather conditions. Elderly citizens are experiencing breathing difficulties and other health issues, while children are suffering from heat-related illnesses.

Hospitals in the city are also witnessing an increase in patients affected by heat-related complications. Medical experts have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun, drink plenty of water, and follow precautionary measures to prevent heatstroke and dehydration.

Business activities have also been severely impacted, with traders reporting significant losses due to power outages. Small businesses, in particular, are struggling to survive amid continuous electricity shortages.

Citizens have urged the government and relevant authorities to immediately end unscheduled load-shedding and ensure uninterrupted water supply to provide relief during the extreme weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast a further rise in temperatures in the coming days and advised the public to take necessary precautions. Experts warn that climate change is intensifying heatwaves across Balochistan and other parts of the country, putting additional pressure on public life and essential services.
