NDMA Issues Alert as Rain, Hailstorms and Heatwave Forecast Across Pakistan

Karachi: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rain and hailstorms in several northern regions of the country over the coming days, while southern parts are expected to face intense heatwave conditions.

According to the Met Office, rain and hailstorms are likely in various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from today until May 23. Similar weather activity is also expected in different parts of Punjab and Islamabad.

The department further predicted rain and hailstorms in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during the same period.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned that temperatures are expected to rise sharply from May 19 in Sindh, southern Punjab, and eastern Balochistan, potentially creating heatwave conditions in these regions.

According to the NDMA, temperatures in some areas may exceed 42 degrees Celsius between May 19 and May 26, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses and health complications.

The NDMA spokesperson advised citizens to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight, drink plenty of water, and take precautions against dehydration and loss of body salts.

The authority also warned that rising temperatures could accelerate glacier melting in northern regions, increasing the risk of landslides and related hazards.
