Two Muslim Countries Announce Eid al-Adha on May 27

ANKARA: Tunisia and Türkiye have officially announced that Eid al-Adha will be observed on Wednesday, May 27, after confirming the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah moon.

According to reports, both countries declared Monday, May 18, as the first day of Dhul Hijjah following the confirmation of the new moon. Tunisia became the first country to formally announce the beginning of the Islamic month after Saturday, May 16, was observed as the 29th day of Dhul Qa’dah.

Türkiye also confirmed May 18 as the first day of Dhul Hijjah. However, unlike many Muslim countries that rely on physical moon sighting, Türkiye follows a pre-calculated Islamic calendar based on astronomical calculations to determine Islamic dates.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman, and several other Muslim countries are expected to observe the Dhul Hijjah moon on the evening of Sunday, May 17. Authorities in those countries will officially announce the dates for Eid al-Adha after moon sighting observations are completed.
