Street Crime, Robberies Surge in Quetta’s Multiple Areas; Citizens Report Rising Insecurity

QUETTA: Residents of several areas of Quetta, including Jinnah Town, Arbab Town, Sariab, Sumnagali, Lahri Gate, Killi Paind Khan, Killi Baraat, Shabo, and surrounding localities, have reported a sharp increase in theft, robbery, and street crime incidents, leaving citizens living in fear and insecurity.

According to local residents and traders, incidents of mobile snatching, motorcycle theft, and armed robberies have become routine, particularly during early evening hours. They said that due to the lack of effective police patrolling, criminal elements are operating freely and escaping without resistance.

Citizens alleged that instead of taking strict action against criminals, police in the Jinnah Town jurisdiction are reportedly focusing on harassing shopkeepers and traders through unnecessary checks and pressure, further worsening public dissatisfaction.

Business owners expressed concern that deteriorating law and order conditions are negatively affecting commercial activities, as fear of robbery has reduced foot traffic and forced many to restrict operations after sunset.

Residents have urged the DIG Quetta, SSP Operations, and senior authorities to take immediate notice of the situation, strengthen police patrolling, launch targeted operations against criminal gangs, and ensure protection of citizens’ lives and property. They also called for an end to alleged harassment of traders so that normal business activity and public confidence can be restored.
