Balochistan Assembly Orders Inquiry Into Mastung Customs Warehouse Fire

QUETTA – Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly Abdul Khaliq Achakzai has ordered an investigation into the fire incident at a customs warehouse in the Lakpass area of Mastung and directed that a report be presented before the assembly within one month.

During the assembly session, National Party lawmaker Mir Rehmat Saleh Baloch alleged on a point of order that the fire at the customs warehouse was not accidental but deliberately set.

He claimed that a large number of vehicles were destroyed in the incident and called for a judicial inquiry into the matter.

Responding to the allegation, Speaker Abdul Khaliq Achakzai asked whether any evidence was available to support such claims and suggested that government members initiate a formal inquiry. He also proposed summoning the Chief Collector Customs to hear the department’s position on the incident.

Parliamentary Secretary Mir Liaquat Ali Lehri said that if customs officials are called, representatives of the chamber of commerce, transport unions, and traders should also be included in the proceedings.

Public Accounts Committee Chairman Asghar Ali Tareen alleged that goods were looted from the customs warehouse before the fire broke out.

Later, the speaker issued a ruling directing the chief secretary to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incident. He instructed that members of the assembly, chamber representatives, and affected individuals should be included in the investigation process, and that the inquiry committee must submit its report to the house within one month.
