Sindh High Court Expresses Anger Over Non-Compliance in Regularization of TMC Lyari Employees, Seeks Explanation from Local Government Secretary

KARACHI: The Constitutional Bench of the Sindh High Court has expressed strong displeasure over the failure to implement its orders regarding the regularization of contract employees of the Town Municipal Corporation (TMC) Lyari. The court has summoned the Secretary of Local Government, Sindh, to appear and submit an explanation.
According to TMC Lyari’s lawyer, Jahangir Kalahoro, the court had previously directed the authorities to regularize the services of the employees. In compliance with the order, the verification process of all TMC employees was completed and the matter was forwarded to the Secretary of Local Government for further action.
However, instead of regularizing the employees, the Local Government Secretary allegedly stopped their salaries and terminated their contracts after the court’s directives, the lawyer informed the court.
The petitioner stated that nearly 200 employees of the Town Education Department have been working on a contractual basis since 2012 and are still awaiting regularization despite long service and court orders.
The court has now taken serious notice of the situation and demanded an immediate response from the Secretary of Local Government.
