Industrial Water Park Established to Address Water Shortage in Karachi’s SITE Area

Karachi: In a major step to address the growing water shortage in Karachi’s industrial zones, the city administration is rapidly advancing a modern sewage treatment project on the instructions of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Under the initiative, the province’s first “Industrial Water Park” has been established at SITE TP-1, where a modern sewage treatment plant has begun trial operations. The first phase of the project, which will provide 35 million gallons of treated water, is expected to be inaugurated on June 30.
During a site visit, officials demonstrated the advanced water treatment process. Company representative Sheikh Humayun Sagheer said that water recycling is a critical need of the time and is successfully being implemented in many developed countries.
He explained that treated sewage water will be processed to meet industrial standards and then supplied to industrial zones for use in factories.
Sagheer further stated that industrialists had raised concerns about water shortages in a meeting with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who directed Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to resolve the issue. Following this, the project was handed over to Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, under whose supervision SITE TP-1 was converted into an Industrial Water Park and work was initiated on an emergency basis.
According to officials, around 5,000 trees have already been planted as part of the project, with further plantation and development work ongoing.
The SITE industrial area requires approximately 35 million gallons of water daily. Authorities say initial arrangements for water supply to industries have been completed, with plans for further expansion in the future.
