Encroachments Surge in Quetta, Citizens Face Severe Difficulties Due to Occupied Roads and Sidewalks

Quetta – Encroachments are rapidly increasing across major commercial centers and key roads in Quetta, causing serious difficulties for citizens as illegal occupation of roads and sidewalks continues unchecked.
In busy commercial areas including Liaquat Bazaar, Prince Road, Masjid Road, Qandhari Bazaar, Jinnah Road, Double Road, and Joint Road, shopkeepers and street vendors have reportedly occupied public spaces by placing goods outside their shops. As a result, sidewalks meant for pedestrians have been largely blocked, making it extremely difficult for people to walk safely.
According to citizens, the situation has created severe problems for elderly individuals, women, children, and patients who struggle to move through these congested areas. In many locations, sidewalks are completely inaccessible, forcing pedestrians onto roads and increasing the risk of traffic accidents.
Reports indicate that pushcarts and vendors frequently occupy walkways and key passage points, disrupting not only pedestrian movement but also causing significant traffic congestion. Long queues of vehicles have become a common sight during peak hours in these areas.
Citizens’ groups have urged the Quetta Metropolitan Corporation and encroachment enforcement teams to take immediate and indiscriminate action against illegal occupations across the city. They believe that regular and sustained operations could provide relief to the public and help restore the beauty and order of the city’s markets and roads.
The public has also appealed to authorities to launch emergency measures to clear major markets and roads from encroachments to ensure smooth traffic flow and safe pedestrian movement in Quetta.
