PTA Flags Poor Internet Performance Across Pakistan, Orders ISPs to Improve Service Quality

Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has released its latest Quality of Service (QoS) report, revealing that several broadband service providers across Pakistan are failing to meet required performance standards.
According to the report, internet speed and service quality were found to be below acceptable levels in 31 major cities, including regions of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The QoS report for the first quarter of 2026 assessed fixed-line broadband services based on key performance indicators (KPIs). While most operators met basic requirements such as network availability, latency, and jitter, the overall service quality showed significant gaps.
The report identified peak-hour congestion as a major reason behind slow internet speeds, noting that increased data usage places heavy pressure on networks. It also highlighted latency issues in both domestic and international data traffic, pointing to weaknesses in routing systems and infrastructure.
The PTA has instructed all internet service providers (ISPs) to immediately improve their network performance and ensure full compliance with quality standards.
Experts say slow internet speeds are directly affecting online education, business operations, freelancing, and digital services, particularly in urban centers and remote areas.
The regulator stated that it will continue monitoring broadband performance across the country and take action where necessary to ensure better service delivery. The report has also been made publicly available on the PTA website to increase transparency and awareness among users.
