Trump Claims Iran in Crisis, Seeks Reopening of Strait of Hormuz

Islamabad: U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran has informed him it is currently in a state of crisis and is seeking urgent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement shared on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said Iran conveyed that it is facing internal challenges and is trying to manage and stabilize its leadership situation. He added that Tehran has requested the United States to reopen the key maritime route as soon as possible.
Trump expressed hope that Iran would be able to overcome its internal difficulties, but did not provide details about when or how this communication took place, nor which Iranian officials were involved.
It is worth noting that no formal agreement has yet been reached between the United States and Iran, although a ceasefire—reportedly facilitated at Pakistan’s request—remains in place.
Meanwhile, Trump has also expressed dissatisfaction with a new Iranian proposal aimed at ending the ongoing two-month conflict. The proposal suggests delaying discussions on Iran’s nuclear program until after the war ends and disputes over Gulf shipping routes are resolved.
However, the U.S. position remains that nuclear issues must be addressed from the outset of negotiations. According to a U.S. official, the conflict has disrupted global energy supplies, contributed to rising inflation, and resulted in significant loss of life, further complicating efforts to reach a resolution.
