Drug Abuse, Alcohol Sale and Alleged Immorality Rampant in Quetta; Citizens Demand Action Against Police Inaction

Quetta – Drug abuse, illegal alcohol sale, and alleged immoral activities are reportedly increasing in several areas of Quetta, raising serious concerns among citizens who say walking on footpaths has become difficult due to the situation.

According to reports, open drug and alcohol sales are taking place on major roads including Jinnah Road, Circular Road, and Court Road. A large number of young people, including minors, are reportedly seen sitting on footpaths and openly consuming drugs, creating an unsafe environment for families, women, and children.

Citizens claim that even walking on footpaths has become difficult due to the situation, while allegations have also been raised that police personnel, including Eagle Squad units, are either ignoring the issue or allegedly providing protection to drug dealers and other illegal activities.

Locals say that instead of taking action against drug dealers, alcohol sellers, and those involved in immoral activities, police often harass ordinary citizens under the pretext of checking and searches.

Despite clear instructions reportedly issued by the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, directing strict action against drug dealers, residents say little visible enforcement has taken place on the ground.

Reports further suggest that in the evening hours, areas such as Jinnah Road, Kandahari Bazaar, and surrounding localities witness increased activity of alleged immoral practices, while no effective police action is observed.

Citizens have urged the Chief Minister, Provincial Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove, IG Police Balochistan, and other authorities to take immediate and strict action against drug dealers and those involved in illegal activities in order to protect the youth from drug addiction and social degradation.

They stressed that urgent and practical measures are needed to restore law and order in the city and ensure a safe environment for the public.
