Saad Rafique Urges US-Iran Reconciliation, Criticizes American Policy

LAHORE: Senior leader of Pakistan PML(N) Khawaja Saad Rafique has commented on ongoing diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran, urging both sides to reach a peaceful settlement.
In a post shared on his verified Facebook account, Rafique wrote in Punjabi, “If the responsibility of a superpower has come upon us, then it’s better to make peace,” referring to Pakistan’s reported mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran.
He criticized the United States, stating that the failure to reach a conclusive outcome in negotiations stems from what he described as an arrogant and unjust American approach. He added that US leadership, along with its allies, has failed to achieve its objectives in the conflict, including regime change in Iran or weakening its resistance.
Rafique said the US is not in a position of victory but is attempting to negotiate from a position of strength, which, according to him, Iran’s leadership would not accept.
He further claimed that in trying to appease Israel, the United States has lost global support over issues such as Gaza and Iran, adding that American policymakers have inadvertently pushed the country toward isolation, benefiting global powers like China and Russia.
The PML-N leader also warned that a prolonged conflict would impose significant political, economic, and social burdens on the United States. He emphasized that countries like Pakistan have made efforts beyond their capacity to facilitate peace, and now “the ball is in America’s court.”
Rafique concluded that any agreement between the US and Iran must be based on a “win-win” situation; otherwise, a prolonged conflict could spread across the region, impacting not only Iran but the entire world.
