Trump Warns UK of Heavy Tariffs Over Digital Tax on US Tech Firms

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has warned the United Kingdom of imposing heavy tariffs if it does not remove taxes on American technology companies.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Trump described the UK’s digital tax on US tech firms as “unfair,” arguing that it targets American business interests.
He indirectly addressed UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, signaling that Washington could retaliate with large-scale tariffs on British goods if the policy remains in place.
Trump emphasized that the United States would not tolerate discriminatory treatment of its companies and would adopt a firm stance on the issue.
Experts say the remarks could heighten trade tensions between the United States and the United Kingdom, which already have disagreements over digital taxation and technology regulations.
Analysts warn that an escalation in the dispute could have broader implications for global trade, the technology sector, and international investment flows.
