Iran Links Participation in Islamabad Talks to End of U.S. Blockade in Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has stated that Tehran will consider participating in proposed negotiations in Islamabad only if the United States lifts its blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.

In an official statement, Iravani said Iran has received indications that Washington may be prepared to ease the blockade. He emphasized that the removal of restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz is a key شرط for resuming diplomatic talks and remains a central demand for Tehran.

Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command reported that since the imposition of the blockade, at least 28 vessels traveling to and from Iranian ports have been turned back. The development highlights the growing maritime tension in one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes.

Adding to the uncertainty, CNN reported Iranian claims that some of its naval vessels have successfully broken through the U.S. blockade and navigated the Strait.

The situation underscores escalating tensions in the region, with both sides presenting conflicting accounts while linking military and maritime actions to the broader diplomatic process.
