Rare Spiritual Moment as Hajar al-Aswad Perfumed with Premium Fragrances, Video Goes Viral

Islamabad: A spiritually moving video showing the perfuming of Hajar al-Aswad has gone viral on social media, capturing a rare and deeply symbolic ritual at Masjid al-Haram in Mecca.
The footage shows attendants applying high-quality fragrances such as amber, musk, and oud to the sacred stone—an act regarded as part of honoring the symbols of Allah. The practice reflects centuries-old traditions aimed at preserving the sanctity and spiritual atmosphere of the holy site.
According to Islamic teachings, pilgrims begin their Tawaf by facing Hajar al-Aswad, touching it with both hands and gently kissing it if possible, following the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
A well-known narration of Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA) highlights the spiritual significance of the act. While kissing the Black Stone, he stated that it is only a stone that neither benefits nor harms, and that he kissed it solely because he saw the Prophet (PBUH) do so.
Officials managing the Grand Mosque have confirmed that Hajar al-Aswad, along with Al-Multazam and Rukn al-Yamani, is perfumed daily. Reports indicate that approximately 20 tolas of oud are used each day for this purpose.
A dedicated unit within the المسجد الحرام administration oversees cleaning and perfuming operations, utilizing modern technology and trained staff to maintain the sanctity and cleanliness of Islam’s holiest site.
