Markets Near Nur Khan Airbase Closed Amid High-Level VVIP Movement

Islamabad: Authorities have ordered the closure of all markets in areas adjacent to the runway of Nur Khan Airbase until further notice, as heightened security arrangements are put in place due to the arrival of important dignitaries.

According to BBC reports, markets and shops in surrounding residential areas of Rawalpindi, including those near the airbase, have been shut down following official directives. The affected areas include localities such as Cha Sultan and Sadiqabad, where workshops and furniture shops are commonly located. On Monday, only essential services such as grocery stores, medical shops, and dairy outlets were observed operating.

A Ministry of Interior official stated that additional restrictions will be enforced during VVIP movement outside the airbase. Areas including Gulzar-e-Quaid and Airport Housing Society are also expected to remain closed during the movement of high-level delegations.

Security for the visiting dignitaries, from arrival at Nur Khan Airbase to their transfer to hotels, is being managed under military supervision, with support from law enforcement agencies. Personnel from the Pakistan Army will be deployed along designated VVIP routes, while Punjab Police, Islamabad Police, and Rangers will also be assigned security duties.

The Expressway has been placed under strict surveillance, with army deployment along key sections and additional police presence in adjoining residential areas.

Pakistan frequently hosts foreign delegations and heads of state at Nur Khan Airbase. While strict security measures are routine during such visits, the closure of surrounding residential markets is considered unusual compared to standard protocols, where only limited temporary security arrangements are typically implemented.

Authorities have not officially confirmed the identity of the visiting dignitaries, while the security operation continues across the twin cities amid ongoing high-level movement.
