Lahore: A hearing was held at Lahore’s District Court regarding the tragic incident in Bhatti Gate where a mother and daughter lost their lives after falling into an open manhole. Judicial Magistrate Shafqat Abbas, after hearing the police’s request, approved a 4-day physical remand for the accused.

During the proceedings, the police had requested a 14-day physical remand, but the court partially granted the request for 4 days. The accused were represented in court by Advocate Muhammad Ahmed Chachar.

During the hearing, the brother of the company’s CEO stated that, at 54 years old, it was his first time appearing in court and that he had no connection to the incident. Accused Salman Yaseen expressed that while the incident was deeply regrettable, he was not involved.

The suspects’ lawyer informed the court that, under the direction of the Chief Minister of Punjab, the company had handed over a compensation check of PKR 10 million (approximately USD 34,000) to the family of the deceased mother and daughter.

The tragic event, which occurred due to an uncovered manhole in Bhatti Gate, sparked widespread grief and anger among local residents. Following the incident, the police registered a case and initiated action against those responsible. With the court-approved remand, authorities will continue their investigation and questioning of the suspects.
