Pakistan Steps Up Diplomacy to Revive US-Iran Talks Before Ceasefire Deadline

Islamabad — A senior Pakistani source has revealed that Pakistan has intensified diplomatic efforts to bring United States and Iran back to the negotiating table after the first round of talks concluded without a formal agreement.

While officials from both sides publicly maintained their positions, the initial phase of negotiations ended without any major breakthrough. Despite the lack of progress, Pakistani authorities remain cautiously optimistic and are continuing backchannel contacts to facilitate renewed dialogue.

According to the source, Islamabad is in constant communication with both Washington and Tehran, urging an early resumption of talks. The primary objective is to reach a workable understanding before the current ceasefire is expected to expire around April 22, in order to prevent a potential escalation.

The source emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that efforts are focused on resolving the matter before the deadline. Preparations are also underway for a possible second round of negotiations during this critical period.

These diplomatic initiatives are being carried out under the direct guidance of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, highlighting the high priority attached to the matter. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir are leading the process, having played a key role in initially bringing both sides closer.

The source added that both leaders are working tirelessly to advance the process, with continuous engagement aimed at securing a diplomatic breakthrough. Pakistan has already conveyed its willingness to facilitate renewed talks and is now awaiting responses from both parties.

Officials hope that momentum will build in the coming days to avoid further escalation and achieve a diplomatic resolution within the limited timeframe, underscoring Islamabad’s proactive role in promoting regional stability and conflict prevention.
