Supreme Court Promises “Groundbreaking” Verdict on Filicide Case on April 8

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan has announced that it will deliver a verdict on April 8 in the case of a man seeking pardon for killing his father, describing the upcoming decision as one that will “shake Pakistan.”
The case concerns Muhammad Safdar, who is convicted of murdering his own father. A three-judge bench, led by Justice Hashim Kakdar, heard the plea for clemency and scheduled the verdict for April 8, while issuing strong remarks on the severity of the crime.
During the hearing, the convict’s lawyer argued that the parties had reached a settlement and submitted the report to the court. He also requested Safdar’s release, noting that he had already served 14 years in prison.
Justice Hashim Kakdar remarked, “Even 24 years in prison is not enough for someone who kills their father. A mechanism must be developed to handle such cases, and on April 8, the court will deliver a verdict that will shake Pakistan.”
Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim added that while there is scope for forgiveness under Qisas or Diyat laws, someone who kills their father should not be given a “clean chit.” He emphasized the need for a permanent framework to handle such serious crimes.
The court noted that the upcoming verdict would be historic and serve as a precedent for similar cases in the future.
