Government Decides Against Train Fare Hike Despite Rising Fuel Prices

Islamabad: In a move aimed at providing relief to passengers, the government has decided not to increase train fares despite the recent surge in petroleum prices.
According to reports, Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi announced that both passenger and freight train fares will remain unchanged. He described the decision as good news for commuters and the transport sector.
Abbasi stated that the government will bear an additional financial burden of PKR 6 billion until June 30 to maintain current fare levels. He emphasized that no fare increase will be implemented during this period.
The minister also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for approving the relief measure, noting that the step is intended to ease the financial pressure on citizens amid rising costs of living.
