Rashid Latif Claims Ball-Tampering Controversy Was Media-Driven Drama

Lahore: Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has responded to the recent ball-tampering controversy in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11, calling it “unnecessary drama” fueled by broadcasters.
Latif said he cannot discuss the matter in detail without referring to incidents from his own playing career. He noted that controversies like this are often amplified, especially when attention is needed, comparing it to a failing film being made sensational. “The ball-tampering element was unnecessarily added and will not stay in the news for long—it won’t last more than 24 hours,” he remarked.

“I don’t want to talk about ball tampering. These controversies are created for headlines, broadcasters thrive on it. Now PSL will be in the news everywhere.” pic.twitter.com/1qveR5F0lO

The controversy erupted during the PSL 11 match between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings, when a video surfaced on social media showing Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Fakhar Zaman handling the ball. The video showed Fakhar Zaman taking the ball from Haris Rauf, some alleged “tampering,” and returning it, after which the umpire intervened, resulting in a five-run penalty against Lahore Qalandars.
Latif added that such controversies are often created to attract attention and media coverage, ensuring that the PSL remains in headlines and public discussion.
