Three Adiala Jail Officials Suspended Over Corruption Allegations

Rawalpindi: Three employees, including an Assistant Superintendent, have been suspended for 90 days over serious allegations of negligence and corruption at Adiala Jail. The Inspector General of Prisons Punjab has also issued show-cause notices to the suspended officials.
The suspended individuals include Assistant Superintendent Imran Shahzad (in charge of the waiting shed), Warder Sohail Ahmed (in charge of goods inspection), and Warder Shafqat Naveed (responsible for receiving relief items). The action was taken following a surprise inspection by Director General Monitoring, Home Department, Athar Saeed.
During the inspection, Rs. 18,220 in cash was recovered from the socks of Warder Sohail Ahmed. The money is suspected to have been taken as bribes from visitors in exchange for facilitating the delivery of items. He has been suspended on charges of alleged bribery.
Warder Shafqat Naveed was suspended for failing to prevent illegal activities, while Assistant Superintendent Imran Shahzad was held responsible for not controlling the misconduct of his subordinate staff.
All three officials have been asked to submit satisfactory explanations within one week. The Home Department has summoned them for a personal hearing on March 25. Failure to provide satisfactory responses may result in dismissal from service or heavy penalties under the PEEDA Act.
