Academic Staff Association Questions Claims of Equal Benefits for Balochistan Teachers

QUETTA: The Academic Staff Association (ASA) of Balochistan has welcomed the governor’s statement about providing teachers with benefits equal to other provinces but said ground realities contradict the claim, urging immediate practical measures.
In a statement, the ASA spokesperson said that if the government is serious about protecting university teachers and addressing the growing issue of brain drain, it must move beyond statements and take concrete action.
The spokesperson noted that while the governor’s announcement is commendable, several previously approved allowances for university staff—such as orderly allowance, utility allowance, and other financial benefits—are gradually being withdrawn. At the same time, maintenance deductions continue from employees residing in university colonies without visible development or repair work.
According to the association, these policies have reduced the overall income of teachers and staff by nearly 30 percent, leading to widespread concern and unrest within academic circles.
Highlighting security concerns, the ASA referred to a recent incident at the Khuzdar campus where a young lecturer, Professor Dilawar Khan, was killed during duty, while two other teachers were injured. The association expressed disappointment over the lack of an official condolence statement or financial support from the provincial government, chancellor, or university administration.
The association demanded urgent steps to resolve the financial crisis facing universities, including the immediate payment
