Supreme Court Dismisses Plea to Cancel Bail of Suspect in Qila Saifullah Kidnapping Case

Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan heard a case seeking cancellation of bail for a suspect accused of kidnapping a government employee after he allegedly refused to pay extortion in Qila Saifullah.
During the hearing, the court dismissed the plea after the petitioner withdrew the request for cancellation of bail. However, the court directed the trial court to decide the case within two months. It also stated that if the accused misuses bail, authorities may approach the court again to seek its cancellation.
The case was heard by a bench comprising Justice Hashim Kakar and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim.
During the proceedings, the complainant’s lawyer informed the court that the suspect, Bangul Khan, is also facing 18 other kidnapping cases. The lawyer said the kidnapped government employee’s official vehicle was recovered from the suspect’s residence and that the accused was arrested after a five-hour police encounter.
Justice Hashim Kakar questioned how the suspect managed to survive if the exchange of fire lasted five hours. The lawyer further told the court that grenades were also recovered from the suspect’s house and alleged that he is an influential individual with political connections.
During the hearing, Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim addressed the accused and remarked, “What do you think of this country? You have started kidnapping government employees.”
According to the case record, the suspect is accused of kidnapping a government employee in Qila Saifullah after the victim allegedly refused to pay extortion. The matter remains under trial.
