Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman Announces Minimum Zakat al-Fitr, Fidya, and Kaffarah Amounts for Ramadan

Islamabad: Prominent Islamic scholar Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman has announced the minimum amounts for Zakat al-Fitr, Fidya, and Kaffarah during Ramadan.

According to his guidance, the minimum amount for Zakat al-Fitr and Fidya is set at Rs300 per person. He emphasized that wealthier individuals should contribute according to their financial capacity.

The minimum rates for various food items are as follows:

Wheat flour (2 kg): Zakat/Fidya per day – Rs300

Barley (4 kg): Zakat/Fidya per day – Rs1,160

Dates (4 kg): Zakat/Fidya per day – Rs2,800

Premium raisins (4 kg): Zakat/Fidya per day – Rs7,200

For Kaffarah of deliberately broken fasts, one must provide two meals to 60 needy people. The estimated value per commodity is:

Wheat flour (2 kg): Rs18,000

Barley (4 kg): Rs69,600

Dates (4 kg): Rs168,000

Raisins (4 kg): Rs432,000

Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman explained that Fidya is intended for chronically ill or extremely elderly individuals who are unable to fast and cannot recover their health, while temporary illness or travel excuses allow one to make up the fast later.

He further clarified that Fidya cannot replace Kaffarah. A person who breaks a fast without a valid excuse must either fast 60 consecutive days and make up the missed day, or if physically incapable, pay the financial Kaffarah.

He also noted that market prices of commodities fluctuate, and the listed amounts serve as minimum reference values. He urged individuals to give generously, citing the Quranic verse: “Whoever gives more than the prescribed amount with a willing heart, it is better for him” (Al-Baqarah: 184).
