K-4 Project to Be Completed by December 2026, Karachi to Receive 260 MGD Water: Ahsan Iqbal

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily) – Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal has announced that the K-4 water supply project will be completed by December 2026, enabling Karachi to receive 260 million gallons of water per day.

Speaking to the media after reviewing the project, he said the visit was undertaken on the special instructions of Shehbaz Sharif. He expressed satisfaction with the performance of WAPDA in executing the project.

Ahsan Iqbal stated that the project’s initial cost was estimated at Rs 120 billion, which is being borne by the federal government. However, after revisions, the cost has increased to Rs 170 billion. He assured that water would reach Karachi by December 2026, while the responsibility for intra-city distribution lies with the Sindh government.

He added that lining work is ongoing to prevent water losses. Regarding net metering, he said a committee formed by the Prime Minister is reviewing the matter.

The federal minister emphasized that terrorism and economic challenges must be tackled collectively. He described Karachi as Pakistan’s major economic asset and engine of growth, and revealed that an agreement has been signed with the Islamic Development Bank for the Karachi-Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway project, with its groundbreaking to be held soon.
