Pakistan Tells UN Security Council Afghan Soil Must Not Be Used for Terrorism

New York: Pakistan has urged the international community to ensure that Afghan territory is not used for terrorist activities against other countries, warning that cross-border terrorism poses a serious threat to regional and global peace.
Addressing the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, expressed deep concern over terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil. He emphasized that Pakistan would not compromise on its sovereignty or the protection of its citizens.
He told the council that more than 80 innocent Pakistanis had lost their lives in recent terrorist attacks, adding that there is evidence suggesting that Afghan territory had been used to plan these incidents. He warned that such elements continue to target Pakistan, undermining regional stability.
The Pakistani envoy called on Afghanistan’s interim authorities to fulfill their responsibilities and ensure that their territory is not used for terrorism against Pakistan or any other country.
He also urged the international community to take the matter seriously and adopt effective measures to dismantle terrorist networks operating in the region.
During his remarks, Ahmad highlighted the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, including economic hardship and restrictions on women’s rights. He stressed the importance of ensuring basic rights and essential services for the Afghan people to lay the foundation for sustainable peace in the region.
Pakistan reiterated at the council that cross-border terrorism not only damages bilateral relations but also threatens international peace and security, underscoring the need for concrete and coordinated action.
